About this experience

Explore Moshi Town—the vibrant gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro—on a rich half-day guided walking and cultural immersion. Set directly beneath Africa’s highest peak, this tour unveils Moshi’s unique blend of German and British colonial history, bustling street markets, local Chagga heritage, and world-renowned coffee culture. Guided by a passionate local expert, you will wander through colorful spice and textile markets, step back in time at the historic 1911 German Railway Station, sip freshly brewed Arabica coffee, and savor an authentic Tanzanian lunch with spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Morning Landmark & Market Exploration: Begin with a guided walk through Moshi Town Center, exploring the bustling Moshi Central Market (Soweto/Mbuyuni Market) filled with tropical fruits, local spices, handcrafted souvenirs, and vibrant Tanzanian fabrics (khangas and kitenges). Colonial Heritage & Historic Railway Station: Visit the iconic 1911 German-built Old Moshi Railway Station. Walk the historic tracks and enjoy unobstructed, sweeping panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped summit. Coffee Culture & Local Life: Stop at a traditional cafe or Union Coffee establishment to sample world-famous Kilimanjaro Arabica coffee while learning about Moshi’s origins as the trade capital of the Chagga people. Authentic Tanzanian Lunch: Conclude the tour at a local favorite restaurant with a hot, traditional Tanzanian buffet featuring dishes like nyama choma (grilled meat), mtori (banana stew), ugali, fresh avocados, and seasonal fruits.
