About this experience

Experience a day safari in Tarangire National Park, famous for hosting Africa's largest concentrations of elephants alongside ancient, towering baobab trees[cite: 2]. Defined by the Tarangire River—the primary year-round freshwater source for wildlife in the ecosystem—this park attracts massive herds of elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Its riverine contours, acacia woodlands, and seasonal swamps create an exceptional backdrop for single-day game viewing. Day-by-Day Itinerary: Day 1: Departure to Tarangire National Park Game Drive & Return Metrics: Full-day safari (10–12 hours total) | Drive time: 3 hours each way from Moshi (2 hours from Arusha) | 5–6 hours game drive Activities: Early morning pickup in Moshi or Arusha and drive through the Maasai Steppe to the entrance gate of Tarangire National Park[cite: 2]. Open the pop-up roof for a game drive following the Tarangire River circuit, spotting large elephant families, tree-climbing pythons, and diverse bird species. Enjoy a hot bush lunch at the Matete or Kuro picnic site overlooking the river before an afternoon game drive and return drive. Safety notes

Vehicle Safety & Seatbelts: Guests must remain seated with seatbelts fastened while traveling at highway speeds to and from the park and along unpaved reserve roads. Tsetse Fly Precautions & Dress Code: Tarangire’s woodland areas host tsetse flies. Guests are strongly advised to wear loose, long-sleeved shirts and long trousers in neutral earth tones (khaki, tan, beige, olive). Strictly avoid dark blue and black clothing, as these colors attract tsetse flies. Wildlife Distance & Standing Guidelines: Keep a respectful distance from large elephant herds, especially family groups with calves. Standing on seats is permitted only when the vehicle is stationary with the pop-up roof open. Picnic Area Wildlife Rules: Do not feed wildlife or leave food unattended at designated picnic spots (such as Matete or Kuro) to prevent habituating monkeys and birds. Sun & Dust Protection: Tropical sun and dusty bush roads require sunglasses, a wide-brimmed sun hat, high-SPF sunscreen, and a lightweight dust scarf or buff.
